On April 13, the Economic Restructuring Committee met at Bird Watcher's Digest due to the fact that I was participating in an MS Walk Fundraiser at the office and it would be more conducive to my schedule.

In attendance were Hunt Brawley, who provided an update on the progress of the Colony Theater restoration, and Dave Haas. Absent were Mike McCarthy, Glenn Newman, Bill Taylor and Mike Archer.

We reviewed the current progress of Historic Preservation Legislation and recent briefings provided to ReStore by Roger Hall and Councilwoman Katie McGlynn.

This session focused mainly on how the Colony project can be used to trigger a revitalization of Putnam Street in the Colony's vicinity. Lodging nearby might be possible if the Bisantz-Bosworth House became a B&B.

Our next meeting tomorrow (4/27) will be at the Holiday Inn at 1PM.
We will revisit downtown revitalization efforts, hopefully get a briefing on the recently completed inventory of downtown space, and discuss where historic preservation is headed. Anyone wishing to add to the agenda is welcome to reply.

Sorry for the delay in updating this. In late April the Committee met about the Progress of Historic Preservation legislation, the prospect of developing events downtown that would draw traffic and whether a downtown music series would be a good tie-in for ReStore.

In May, Eric Barrett, Mike Stocky, Mike Archer and I met about how the Armory ground floor can be utilized for selling agricultural products. There remain some hurdles, specifically, power and heat that would be needed if the facility were to operate during the winter months. There has been some possible interest from the current Farmer's Market Vendors; the remaining challenges are capacity, and the aforementioned utility concerns.

Today (June 8) the committee will meet to review the goals stated back in February, to measure our progress, and we will also look down the road as ReStore moves forward in the application process. We will also discuss additional events that may benefit the downtown, including the local Auto Cross enthusiast group, that would like to have a race downtown.
Finally, in discussions with Charlotte Keim and her promotions committee, it was decided that ReStore should sponsor the downtown music series on Friday nights and Saturday afternoons at the Armory.

The Economic Restructuring Committee will now meet the last Tuesday of each month, to better accommodate everyone's schedule.

Last week (6/8) Charmel Wesel, Mike McCarthy and I met on economic development, as Charmel is now at Buckeye Hills, having moved over from being a Marietta City Development Specialist. I've invited Charmel to join our committee, and we'd be delighted if she can do so.

We met about funding opportunities for downtown projects, reviewed the progress on goals to date, and talked about setting priorities for the next six months.

The Economic Restructuring Committee met July 17 at my request to discuss protection for the stage at the Armory that houses the ReStore Marietta Concert Series; how best to employ high tech devices to aid visitors to Marietta's historic sites; what new events might bring even more visitors to Marietta; and how we might help support the renovation of Mound Cemetery, a key visitor destination. Participants in the meeting included Mike McCarthy, Dave Haas, Glenn Newman, Bill Taylor, David Locke, and Carolyn Dempsey.

Mike McCarthy solicited support for the Armory's attempt to construct a "Walk of Honor" in bricks sponsored by those who wish to honor loved ones who've served.

Thanks to all for a productive meeting. I will report on progress in an upcoming post.

All of the final completed, updated field data for Phase I (of III) of the Marietta Central Business District-Inventory (CBD-I) is now being input into the new version of Microsoft Works by Charlotte Keim/MACC. With the further assistance of Glenn Newman and folks at Marietta College we should have a usable, storable product soon.
