Celebrate Pink Floyd style at Armory Square on Friday, May 25, 2007. WMOA Radio will be broadcasting live from the Armory lawn beginning at 4:30 pm as ReStore Marietta prepares to “tear down the wall” covering the fire damaged buildings in the 200 block of Front Street in Marietta.

At 6:30 pm ReStore Marietta board members and volunteers will put on hard hats and safety goggles, and armed with crowbars, tear down the wall. This evening of family entertainment will have food vendors at Armory Square as well as the many fine downtown restaurants. The stores will be open until 9 pm for your shopping pleasure. There will be pieces of the wall that you can purchase as a keepsake. It is also your chance to buy a special t-shirt celebrating the removal of the wall, created by Claire Mullen Design.

A portion of the 200 block of Front Street will be closed for through traffic from 6 pm until 7 pm on May 25. The street will close at the Putnam and Front intersection and by the Becky Thatcher parking lot. Parking in the lot will be accessible. The streets will re-open at 7 pm. This is to allow pedestrians to safely cross from the Armory lawn to the other side for the wall demotion ceremony.

This is the first event sponsored by ReStore Marietta, an organization of concerned citizens, merchants, property owners, lending institutions and organizations. ReStore Marietta’s goal is to develop programs, projects and activities to revitalize historic downtown districts – starting with Harmar, Front and Second Streets – to make Marietta a more economically vibrant city. ReStore Marietta was formed in the fall of 2006 as a non-profit organization. While recognizing the many assets already enjoyed in this downtown district, ReStore Marietta is working to create an even more vibrant downtown community that attracts local residents and tourists; showcases the downtown district as wonderful place to live, shop and work.
